Liu Yandong, Rare Female Member of China’s Politburo, Dies at 80

Liu Yandong, a former vice premier and one of only six women to serve on the Chinese Communist Party’s elite Politburo, has died at the age of 80. Despite her high-ranking position, she was excluded from the very top levels of power within the party. This announcement highlights the continued rarity of female leadership in China's political elite.
