During a routine quality check of a global Moon map, Robert Wagner identified a bright spot ringed by a dark halo, revealing a newly formed crater named McGetchin. This crater, measuring 222 meters across and 43 meters deep, appeared after spring 2024 and is surrounded by a seven-kilometer zone that experiences significantly colder nighttime temperatures. This discovery marks the largest newly formed crater found on the Moon to date.
